On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the Chicago Center for Diabetes Translation Research (CCDTR) will present the 9th Annual Chicago Diabetes Day. This prestigious meeting serves as a forum for basic and clinical investigators, clinicians, and pharmaceutical industry personnel in Chicago and the Midwest. Speakers from the University of Chicago and other institutions around the U.S. will discuss various topics in basic and clinical research. Every year, the meeting’s high point is the presentation of Donald F. Steiner Award for Outstanding Achievement in Diabetes Research, awarded to an outstanding investigator. The award is named for Donald F. Steiner, MD., the A.N. Pritzker Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, who is a pioneering diabetes investigator, active researcher and educator, and discoverer of proinsulin. This distinguished honor includes an engraved crystal award and a monetary award to advance the honoree’s research. Past honorees include: Domenico Accili, MD, Department of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons (2013); Steven E. Shoelson, MD, PhD, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School (2012); and Michael S. German, MD, Department of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco (2011).

The meeting concludes with a poster presentation session for students, researchers and residents who wish to share findings from current basic, clinical, or translational research. The top posters presenters will also receive awards.
